Council Kicks Off Year of the Family with Family Prayer Night for Grandparents

At the August Monthly Social Meeting, Grand Knight, Lou Manz announced the Council's "Year of the Family" Initiative. The Council kicked off the Year of the Family with a Family Prayer Night Service honoring Grandparents on Wednesday, September 6 in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
The service consisted of an Introduction read by Grand Knight, Lou Manz, followed by the Opening Hymn led by Dr. Gene Harris. Rev. Fr. Andrzej Mitera greeted the participants and led the Opening Prayer. Scott Woods read from the book of Genesis and Dr. Harris follwed with the Responsorial Psalm. Patty Woods read the Second Reading; a reading from the Letter of St. Paul to Titus (Titus 2:1-8). Fr. Mitera proclaimed the Gospel of Luke and gave a brief Sermon on the value of Grandparents.
After the sermon, Patty Woods led the Intercession for Grandparents. Lawsikia Hodges of the parish's Justice & Peace Ministry read the Catechesis of Pope Francis on Grandparents & the Elderly given March 4, 2015.
After the Litany of the Holy Family, led by Fr. Mitera, Joel Kendrick read the Catechesis of Pope Francis on Grandparents given on March 11, 2015. Fr. Mitera led a Prayer to the Holy Family, a Prayer for Pope Benedict, and concluded with a Final Prayer, before the service concluded.
