April 27, 2024
This Knight of the Month has only been a Knight since 2021. But, he jumped right into it and became the Council Treasurer. With a Council as active as ours, this can be a full-time job.
He was born in Philadelphia, but was raised in Framingham, Massachusetts, where he attended Framingham North H.S. and Keefe Vocational. He is the third of eight children and is named after both grandfathers. He moved to Florida after the blizzard of 1978 and attended Florida Community College Jacksonville (FCCJ). He spent 21 years working for St. Johns County as a Senior Network & Systems Administrator. Now retired, he still dabbles in technology security and repair.
He and his wife Candi have six daughters Kristen, Tiffany (both 44), an adopted daughter, Patricia (36) Marissa (27), and Francesca who died at childbirth in 1995. They have been parishioners at St. Catherine of Siena for 30 years and were previously at St. Jeremiah in Framingham.
He became a catechist in 2011 and for the last ten years has assisted in the Confirmation Encounter Program. For the last five years, he has participated in the Parish’s Urban Plunge. He enjoys working with young people to encourage and empower them. He is a member of the St. Matthew Parish Neighborhood Community and participates in the Vocations Prayer Chalice Transfer.
He joined the Knights of Columbus for reasons of faith, fraternity, fellowship and family and, so far, Council activities have strengthened him in all areas. He is always available to help at Council events. He attends the monthly Pro-Life Mass & Rosary celebrated by Fr. Andy, just outside one of Jacksonville’s most prolific abortion clinics and participates in other Pro-Life event; coordinating the Council’s efforts in this year’s Life Chain on Blanding Blvd.
In February, the Council Trustees asked that he be recognized for his efforts in helping them complete the semi-annual audit.
He enjoys a wide variety of sporting activities, including ping-pong, bocce, darts, fishing, archery, bumper pool, basketball, swimming, and golf. His other hobbies include organic gardening and creative cooking and concocting.
He likes to say he has three cougars;
· A 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7; the first car he bought in 1973,
· A 1969 Mercury XR7 Convertible; he bought at Jacksonville Beach in 1984, and
· His wife, Candi
For all his efforts in his Parish, his community, and the Knights of Columbus, the Council is proud to select Michael Gambone as its Knight of the Month for February. Congratulations, Michael!
